Charlie is one of the Co-op’s highly valued volunteers. His experience and knowledge have been of great value to the Co-op.
Local food, food security, health and fitness have long been passions of Charlie’s:
“I was part of the ‘back to the land’ movement back in the 1970s and helped start a food co-op in the Bella Coola Valley back then. So about five years ago when I saw the notice for the beginnings of a food co-op here in Lumby, it didn’t take much for me to say ‘I’m in!’
And I have been volunteering for this project ever since.
I have held many positions there over the years and now I see myself as a support person and an advisor for other volunteers.
The Vendor Liaison position is one of the best jobs there cause you get to interact with and get to know all our local farmers and ranchers. I have previously held this position but now I’m an assistant to our current Vendor Liaison.
I also particularly like working at the Co-op on Wednesdays, our freight day for organic food that we bring in from our outside wholesalers. (About half our sales are from local vendors and half are from outside wholesalers). Lots of buzz and lots of fun working with our great team on freight day!
We have come a long way in the past 4-1/2 years! Hats off the all the many committed people who have helped make Monashee Community Co-op a financially successful reality (a special thanks to Julie Jones, our great treasurer). We have a great team!”
