Happy New Year Everyone!
We are heading into exciting times with the YES vote from the Special Meeting on Wednesday December 4, 2024 to move into new larger space in the Arbour Park Mall.
The increase of space will be more than double, from 1600 to 3600 square feet, providing us with the room to expand our offerings, improve food security and to offer much more to our community at large. This decision also means a more visible storefront for our Co-op.
During the meeting, members were presented with all the information regarding the financial situation and projections for the coop to 2027 as well as estimates for design work, building permits and renovations. A two-month overlap of locations has also been factored into the costs which will be covered primarily by grants from Investment Agricultural Foundation and Regional District of North Okanagan and savings from the co-op and private donations. As well, we will be fundraising for moving expenses and an additional cushion for unexpected expenses. If you’re interest in help… consider joining our fundraising committee! The move brings so much potential for our little store and the impact we can make in our community.
Lumby is growing fast, and we want to grow with it. We are determined to keep the “warm and personal feeling” described by so many people who come into our store… We will nurture that feeling by creating a bigger community hub for all our members and supporters.
In 2025, we plan to:
- expand on our very popular workshop offerings;
- focus more on our youth volunteer mentorship program – providing them with valuable skills for entry into the workforce,
- focus on the importance of community, food security, shopping local, eating well and how our choices make an impact.
